ACE Certified Medical Exercise Specialist
ACE Certified Medical Exercise Specialists are professionals who meet all the requirements of the American Council on Exercise to develop and deliver specific and complementary medical exercise programs independently and in collaboration with other healthcare providers. They have expertise in conducting assessments and designing comprehensive health and fitness programs to help clients prevent and manage disease, avoid injuries, improve overall wellness and function throughout all phases of medical interventions, and return to desired activities following rehabilitation. ACE Certified Medical Exercise Specialists apply the principles of exercise science, health coaching, nutrition, psychology, corrective exercise, therapeutic exercise, and pathophysiology to develop health and fitness programs for special-population clients with clinical issues (e.g., cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, and musculoskeletal) in order to facilitate lasting behavioral change and improve client health, function, and well-being.
The ACE Medical Exercise Specialist Certification is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agency (NCCA). ACE Professionals are required to earn 20 hours of ACE-approved continuing education credits (2.0 CECs) every certification renewal cycle. Establishing and enforcing that standard helps validate that professionals continue to enhance their competence to safely and effectively lead people to change health and exercise behaviors that support improved function and well-being.
